Frieze Art Fair Impressions from Frieze | NYC 2017

Visiting Frieze NYC art fair is like visiting a small village set up in a generously sculptural tent on Randall’s Island. The fair attracts the leading galleries in the World to show their best, as well as the most committed collectors, and of course art lovers in general.

This year also marked the launch of new partnerships in New York, including the inaugural Frieze Brooklyn Museum Fund to support acquisitions made at the fair for the museum; the first Frieze symposium in the city held in collaboration with the Getty and the Institute of Fine Arts, NYU; and a campaign to support the Americans for the Arts Action Fund to save the National Endowment for the Arts. Bringing together collectors, curators, and art enthusiasts from around the world, the fair showcased the vanguard of contemporary practice and traced its key influences, highlighting established, emerging, and re-discovered artists alongside icons of 20th-century art and tribal works. Presented on Randall’s Island Park from May 5 – 7, the fair drew a record number of top-tier first-entry collectors visiting from around the world both on the Preview Day and throughout the fair. Building on ambitious gallery presentations as well as the fair’s. The fair reinforced its role as a vital platform for engaging with the most influential and inspiring artists working today.

Frieze is a media and events company that comprises three publications, as well as three international art fairs, London, New York and Masters; a programme of courses and talks at Frieze Academy, and frieze.com – the definitive resource for contemporary art and culture.

Frieze was founded in 1991 by Amanda Sharp, Matthew Slotover and Tom Gidley with the launch of Frieze magazine, a leading magazine of contemporary art and culture. Sharp and Slotover established Frieze London in 2003, one of the world’s most influential contemporary art fairs which takes place each October in The Regent’s Park, London. In 2012, they launched Frieze New York taking place in May; and Frieze Masters, which coincides with Frieze London in October and is dedicated to art from ancient to modern.
